Wanna plan a reunion?
So...we are a year away from the reunion. We are looking for a planner. Hold up...I hear you and I know what you are thinking. Many of you have suggested that I step up and plan this sucker. Well unfortunately I won't do that for 3 reasons. (1) I don't mind helping out but I don't want to have to be responsible the night of the reunion. There. I admit it. I'd rather kick back and enjoy the evening with the rest of you guys. I have this horrible vision that the reunion person gets stuck after it's over helping to clean up or something while all of her (or his) buddies take off to carry on the party elsewhere. Nu-uh...I'll be following that party train where ever it might be going. Pfft. You know it! I'm also sure this is completely irrational and that really it's me just being immature and wanting to regress and partake in teenage like behavior. So be it. (2) Doesn't it make better sense for a local person to plan a high school reunion? I live in another state! A neighboring state...but still... Despite technology and the internet I'm still going to play that card. (3) My husband is not supportive of my taking on this project since we have plenty of other projects that I need to be focusing on. Usually he's a really supportive guy when it comes to "Temple stuff" but when I ran this by him...well, he had a point. There are a lot of things we need to tackle without this distracting all of my attention. Like last year when my mother-in-law accidentally pulled down our living room curtains and broke the rod - you would think that would have been handled by now but nope - I still need to get the curtains replaced. My bad. I also am in charge of the new area rugs that were supposed to help us keep our new carpet in good shape - instead I just keep having the carpets cleaned more often than we should be because it is insane what two toddlers and a dog can do to carpet that was way too light in color for our lifestyle. Again - my bad. It doesn't help that part of what has distracted me from this is party planning...I planned our annual holiday party, a big summer BBQ and backyard kickoff party...my oldest son's 4th bday party...and lots of smaller in between shindigs. I love planning parties! My husband knows this and his vote? Curtains and carpets my friends. I have enough that already distracts me from the more important matters in my chaotic life (like this blog for example) without planning our 20th year reunion.
Dang...you would think this is Tab typing this post! ;) Focus Temple...focus....long story short...
Anyway - any takers? Or do we have to get someone nice and schnockered at Shawn & Dave's party and get them to commit?

And here we go...
Well some of us were privy to a whirlwind of emails that went around today regarding Obama vs. McCain...wow, we have come a long way from the days where the biggest opinions we had were in regards to Duran Duran vs Def Leppard, preppy vs rocker, Vans vs Converse, or wine coolers vs cheap beer! While I'm not a huge fan of politics myself, I do appreciate the importance and I love the dialogue between so many of us who have known each other for several decades. I'm fascinated how different we all are considering how we were all aligned back in the day before politics played a more significant role in our lives. Regardless of your political affiliation, nobody can deny that this is a very historical time in our country. I wanted to invite you to keep up the conversation here. The consensus so far is some of us are for Obama, some for McCain and some of us...well some of us would rather have a beer and watch the rest of you guys duke it out. So - what are your thoughts??? Shawn & Dave's pre-reunion party
As most of you guys have heard via email, Shawn & Dave are in cahoots planning a pre-reunion practice party (any excuse to party - right?! right). They mentioned a theme party. I immediately thought of this picture Shawn sent me. 80's party!!! Any theme will be fun. But I really would like to see Steve Stillwell in his parachute pants.Clink-clink!

He had surgery to remove a tumor in his brain and now is going to start radiation and chemo to kill the remaining brain tumor and hopefully anything else floating around! No Laura...this is the best blog post ever...
Happy anniversary Laura!
A year ago today Laura learned she had cancer. Since then, she has not only kicked that cancers ass, but she has shown us all how to tackle one of life's greatest challenges with grace, courage, humor and determination. This blog would not have been created had it not have been for Laura's blog. Think of all of the fun memories, funny pictures, reminiscing, reconnecting with old friends and laughter that would not have happened! Laura, thank you first and foremost for fighting. You are one strong sistah! Secondly, thanks for having a hand in bringing all these crazy people together in cyberspace. The memories and stories that continue to surface are sooo funny. It's awesome as we slide ever closer to that 20th that we have a place to dish out old memories from back in the day - what halarious times...even if we were idiots putting ourselves in really bad situations. Finally - Laura, thank you for being a part of our lives, from those crazy drunken highschool days to these days, it's great to have you around.
Since this blog is in Laura's honor, feel free to share any memories about her that you feel compelled to (smile). Think of it as her continued therapy as I'm certain many of us have Laura flashbacks that will make her smile - and smiling is good for your health.

Just back from Tahoe
So we just returned from the 4th annual Tahoe trip. We think we finally found "the" cabin - it's a keeper - thanks Becky for coordinating the trip and finding a rockin place to rent. This year Becky, Kelly, Tab, Ham, Amy & my family and our chilluns (I think there were 12 kids ages 0-9 if I counted correctly) made it up. Jeff & I had to cut out a day early since Wyatt came down with a nasty bug - but it was really fun while it lasted. A few of the ladies (I will not mention names) got their drink on Friday night and it was very entertaining to watch the effect of rum & coke or vodka & orange soda on people who haven't gotten schnockered in awhile. Good times! I heard something about sledding in bathing suits - what went down after we left you people?! It was dumping snow! Can't wait until next year to do it again. If Tab or Becky have video of the sledding shenanigans (in bathing suits or otherwise) I will add it here if they say it's ok.

Brianna Denison
I'm not sure how many of you have heard about this story - but our community here in Reno has been hit hard by a tragedy. In late January, Brianna Denison, 19, was abducted from a home in the neighborhood next to campus. She grew up in Reno and was home visiting for winter break (she went to college in Santa Barbara). She had gone out with her friends to a concert and later that night slept on the couch in her friend's livingroom. The sliding glass door next to where she was sleeping had been left unlocked. In the morning when her friends woke up - Brianna was gone. Her cell phone and shoes were still there.
In the weeks that followed, the entire community seemed to rally in hopes of finding Brianna. I have never seen a campaign like this for a missing person. Posters of Brianna were everywhere - the casino marquis, in drive-thru windows, on every telephone pole, etc. Search and rescue teams made up of hundreds of volunteers combed the fields closest to campus for weeks hoping to find some trace of Brianna. Reno is still a small town in the sense that everyone seems to know someone you know. We have a friend who owns a car dealership and the police where there (and at every dealership) seeing if anyone tried to get rid of a car fast. One of the parent's in Korey's classroom was telling me her friends ex-husband was turned in as a possible suspect and interviewed. Another parent told me everyone in her husband's office were interviewed. The talk about this case has been constant and everywhere - in the line at the grocery store, on the radio - and of course on the news and in the paper.
This past weekend, Brianna's body was discovered in a field near my home (not the one right at the end of our sreet for those of you who have been here - another field about a mile away). Brianna had been strangled and her body dumped there over a week ago (perhaps longer, they haven't said yet). Until recently, most of the fields had been covered with snow. A man walking during his lunch break discovered her body. It was horrible news.
DNA evidence had linked Brianna's abductor to a serial rapist who has assaulted 2-3 other women on and near campus. They assume the man is local and have a possible description. They think he either lives or works near campus or on our end of town since he dumped her body down here. Women around here are rattled to say the least to know a serial rapist and now murderer is on the loose. Oh - and one of his rape victims told police there was a baby shoe on the floor of his truck - so this guy might be a Dad. They think he blends into the community really well and it's probably someone that family and friends would never imagine would be capable of these crimes. It's beyond creepy...
Brianna's favorite color was blue and today Jeff & I went to a birthday party with the kids and there were blue ribbons everwhere - on car antennas, front doors, light poles. Where Brianna's "missing person" posters had been now show posters with the sketch artist drawing of the potential suspect. The community is outraged and the manhunt has begun.
I wanted to post something about Brianna's story because I hope it reminds everyone to be safe. I can think back on my life (and our lives) and think about many times we made dumb decisions (leaving doors unlocked, walking around in dark neighborhoods, hanging out with boys we didn't know very well, the list goes on). We are all very lucky. In addition, I just hope people don't forget about this young woman who died way too early. My heart goes out to the Denison family. I cannot begin to imagine their pain. Happy Valentine's Day!
First I want to make sure to say Happy V-Day specifically to Sue...she & I survived many a rough Valentine's Day back in the day and I always think of her when this day rolls around. Cheers to you Sue! To everyone else - I hope today is a good thing and not a day filled with hang ups. I'm wondering what your best and worst Valentine's Days have been - any takers?

2008...let the countdown begin!
So it's official...we are less than two years away from our 20th. Some of our elderly friends who stop by here on occasion know their time has come - it's your year class of '88! Dust off your party pants! Kathleen should have a pre-party so us babies can see how the older and wiser kids will handle their 20th. Practice, practice - right? Help us youngsters out. (wink)
Actually any excuse to party with any of you old friends would be great. Maybe we can have a few get togethers for old time sake. We can hit the Bluffs, Sadek Court and whatever other old school haunts we can think of. We can also gather at some nostalgic concerts to keep our '80's rocker spirits alive. Shawn & I might be off to Vegas in April to catch Def Leppard, Styx & REO Speedwagon (jealous??? laughing???). Anybody have a banana clip I can borrow? Which of you did I loan my cropped denim jacket to? On to other things...some of us will be doing Bay 2 Breakers this year - make sure to keep ourselves agile enough to get down at the reunion. Maybe this is the year to start ressurecting the annual night before Thanksgiving thing at Marie Calendars...does that still happen? How did that ever land at Marie Calendars by the way?! Or - there's always Players...
Anytime I see any of you is a good time by the way. Here's to a great 08 to all of you!

PS - Dave, the rumor is true...you were on a tentative list for being t.p.'d in the not so distant past. I'm privy to this information only as a bystander as it was not my idea. But you can talk to Amy ByH20 about the list. She knows we don't "fork" around if a few cocktails have been consumed and we're in the neighborhood, you never know what can happen.

Happy Holidays Y'all!
Wishing everyone a wonderful round of Christmas cheer and a smooth slide into 2008. Not sure what we will be doing for New Years eve just yet. Might be in Sac, might be in Reno...depends on what kind of plans we run into. If anyone knows of anything fun happening - let us know!
