It's official...it's been 20 Years!

Happy New Year everyone! Now that 2009 has officially rolled around we all have to officially admit it...we graduated 20 *gulp* years ago. Just allow that to sink in for a minute. 20 years. Two full decades. Dang!

Ok, everyone still with me? Good because 2009 also means we have a whoppin party to go to this year! Please keep voting on stuff and paying attention to updates that show up here.

Reunion Update!

Well besides the fun we had the night before Thanksgiving, we also tackled some more stuff for the reunion. Juliet, Sondra, Shawn & I met on Saturday at Lions Gate for an unofficial food tasting and room viewing. Now that I have personally seen the venue with my own eyes - I see why this is *THE PLACE* for a rockin 20 year reunion! Things we want you to know and start thinking about -

**Staying at Lions Gate: The website does not really give justice to the rooms. Lions Gate, formerly McClellan Air Force Base, is a very unique place to stay. It's like a mini-community as opposed to your traditional hotel/resort. So it's our very own 'neighborhood' for the reunion weekend & people can consider staying in typical hotel rooms, suites, dog friendly units or even 2000sf houses that sleep 16!


**Childcare: Because of how this place is set up, it is a great place for families. If you would be interested in bringing your kids - we are thinking about coordinating child care during the actual reunion on Saturday night. Sondra Shrader works at Oakmont High School & knows some of her students personally who have child care experience and we would hire them for a minimal per-child fee. Important - PLEASE leave a comment to this post if you might consider childcare so we know if we should set this up. Feel free to email Sondra directly (her email is listed below on left side) if you have questions, suggestions or concerns about reunion child care. Update: we decided to throw up a poll regarding childcare. Voting does not lock you in to anything - it's just for us to get an idea.

**What's on Tap: Here is a snap shot of what it's looking like so far -
Friday night: Casual reception at Lions Gate *this may be no host, still working that out
Saturday day: Possible family/kid friendly/sporty/picnic/hangout/something
Saturday night: Reunion! Adults only. Food, drinks, and of course - 80's music!!!
Sunday: Breakfast is included when you stay - so those still standing who want to plan to mingle one last time before they head out - feel free.

**Cost: Too early to tell you but we are on a mission to keep it minimal and as inclusive as we can! Details will be in the official invitation which will go out in early 2009.

Busy bees...

Just wanted to let people know that we have been working behind the scenes to nail down a reunion venue & date. Last week Shawn, Juliet & Sondra met and explored some of the options we have considered. We're down to just a few and just need to confirm available dates (it's looking like our options might be the very end of September or mid-October based on what's available) and other event details. Once it's a go - you will hear from Juliet so stay tuned everybody! Thanks ladies for all the research, phone calls and driving all over the greater Sac area!

Hook us up!

It's been great so many of you have been showing up around here! We still need to find lots of people though. We had over 400 people in our graduating class! If you see someone is missing from the list to the left and you know their working email address, please make sure to send that to Juliet at juliet.farmer@att.net and we'll keep updating. A Del Campo class of 89 group has also been formed on Facebook so if you haven't stumbled upon that yet - check it out.

I've had a couple people ask me where they can email pictures for the reunion. Sondra Shrader will be collecting those down the road a bit so stay tuned. We'll post an announcement when she's ready to roll with that. In the meantime, start scanning your favorite old pictures people! We want to capture as many people as possible - so step up and represent!

Reunion Revolution!

Not only do we plan to go big (as in attendance) for our reunion, but we also plan to go green. That means we need your current email address to ensure you get invited to the shindig, as we’re "e-viting" all the way. It also means if your email address changes, keep us up to date. And for those of you who don’t have email (that’s SO 80s, btw!), we’ll send the Pony Express to your pad, so send us your snail mail address.

We will also be sourcing out eco-friendly plates, utensils, etc. and plan to recycle all the bottles and cans we will surely produce via beverage consumption.

I'll Stop the World and Melt with You

Any good high school dating stories?

Maybe you went somewhere with that babe you met at Sunrise Mall? Perhaps you asked that total fox from History class to go to Leatherby's for ice cream. Or maybe it was more of a group thing...a bunch of you spent the day walking around Oldtown Sac. Whatever it was that brings back fun memories (or maybe not so fun?)...do tell...

Everybody's Working for the Weekend!

Most of us had jobs in high school...especially by the time we were seniors. It's funny to look back at some of the places we worked. I know a good handful of us worked at a very politically incorrect place called Po'Folks for example. Our work uniforms made us look like we were on the set of Little House on the Prairie. Once in our little get ups we would spend hours serving people lemonade in mason jars, along with fried okra & catfish. All the while being bullied by some huge guy named Ray. Good times. Ugh.

The cool thing about having friends that worked at food places was when you would stop in and they would hook you up. I know many fast food and yogurt places where the "hook up" was standard. Or, there were the trades. You work in a strip mall for example and would trade ice cream from your place of employment for pizza from the teenagers working across the way.

What about you? Where did you earn your weekend dollars so you had money to buy outfits at Miller's Outpost and Contempo? (ha ha)

Lost Classmates

Twenty years is a long time, and amidst all the marriages, divorces, kids, jobs and mortgages, we’ve lost some of our fellow classmates.

Some, such as Paula Keith and Brett Bickford, died while we were still at Del Campo. Those losses were tragic and, for many of us, the first time we had to deal with losing a peer.

We may be older now, but it’s still just as hard to hear about the passing of former classmates such as Kelly Henson, who died unexpectedly in a house fire just before our 10-year reunion. Or Darryl Nelson, who battled cancer and lost the fight in May 2007. In addition, the war has claimed a fellow graduate --Army Sgt. Ron Coffelt was killed by a makeshift bomb in Baghdad in July 2007 during his second tour of duty.

As part of our 20-year reunion, we plan to recognize these losses.

We ask that anyone who has a funny story or photo to share regarding Paula, Brett, Kelly, Darryl or Ron to please email it to juliet.farmer@att.net.

We also realize that there may be others we’ve lost, so please let us know if there’s anyone we’ve overlooked.

Brave enough to share your most embarrassing high school memory?

Here’s mine, for all the world to see:

It was freshmen year and I was walking towards the halls on the lower quad. I happened to be passing by the JV football team who were hanging out on the brown hexagon tables just outside the cafeteria when a stupid bird crapped on me – right on my forehead. I remember trying to turn my head (away from the view of the gawking football players) and closing my eyes while gritting my teeth thinking “pleasedon’tletthemseethispleasedon’tletthemseethis…” Too late – someone (Jason Smith? Dave Tornell?) yelled, “Temple just got shit on!” and the whole team busted a gut at my expense. I high tailed it down the hallway towards the bathroom. Timme Sherman had been amongst those laughing that day but he did come down the hall to see if I was ok. He knew how horrified I was. Hands down one of my most embarrassing moments in high school - and ever for that matter. Dang blasted birds.

Heads Up!

Hey! Just an update about the blog, reunion, etc. Thanks Julie(t) (Coberly) Farmer for agreeing to be the contact person for the reunion next year. It will be great to have someone local to nail down a venue, field calls, etc. In the next few weeks, this blog will be getting a major face lift with the main intention being to serve as a reunion site. You might notice I removed the poll to vote on the preferred month. I did that because of the feedback I'm getting on the side about a possible Sept/October event. When I get the blog "reunionified" I will put the poll back up and make sure to include those months as options (sorry to those 8 of you who had already voted).

My main job is going to be to maintain the blog, help collect pictures from the masses, market the reunion on the internet, rally up people for this and that - all in collaboration with
Julie(t). Cindy (Shute) Halloway is also helping. If anyone else who happens by here would like to help, let us know. I think we are good as far as getting the ball rolling but as the event gets closer we may need some extra hands.

So at this point I need to ask for help with one little something. If anyone has a copy of our class picture - the 11x17 one where everyone is outside on the lawn (or somewhere) at DC - I'm in desperate need of finding that sucker. I looked in my stuff because I thought I had that, but no luck. If you find it and mail it to me (hard copy) I promise to mail it back. If you can scan it and email it to me - even better!

While rummaging through my "back in the day" stuff, I did find lots of treasures. I still have my "Blasting Out - Free at Last" class of 89 DC t-shirt with all of our names on the back. I also found my 89 tassel and grad cap. Fun! But the really good stuff is in the yearbooks I started to thumb through. Laura was right, it's good times to look through these and see what people wrote. I had forgotten that our own Jen Ham was Queen! Queen Ham!!! That made me smile. I had forgotten a lot actually. I guess that is what happens when in high school your priorities are boys and parties. Anyway, after Laura's comment I was a little nervous when I saw Dave Roth's name on the inside front cover just as I was getting started - but he was very kind to me. After 1/2 a page of harrassing me about making Mrs. Brito have a break down in Spanish class, he said, "I wish you the best in whatever you pursue in the future. You're capable of acheiving anything Temple. Just NEVER quit." Thanks Dave...no wonder 19 years later it's still you giving me pep talks (inside joke ;p). So if you still have 'em, sometime within the next year, start thumbing through your yearbooks to get yourself in the spirit.

We got the spirit...yes we do...we got the spirit...how 'bout you! This has taken a very cheesy turn...
